TEAM QUOTES:
Ron Ellington got into a rhythm at Martinsville Speedway and his patience paid off as he brought home a ninth-place finish behind the wheel of the No. 57 Kodak Chrysler in the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500. It was the seventh top-10 finish of the season for Ron and now Ellington is 15th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver points standings with three races remaining.
“Having the test notes from Yates Racing was a help to us, but we went in a little bit of a different direction,” Ellington said. “It was nice having them to fall back on because they had a really strong test. Once again, the alliance with Yates and running YCM Engines is really helpful for us. Man, I got a lot of damage early on in the race and the motor ran hot, hot, hot all day, but the thing stayed alive and did not lose a drop of water. It shows the effort YCM is putting in and we want to thank them for their hard work and also thank Dodge/ Chrysler. So, it was a good day for us. Honestly, it’s maybe one of the best days we have had all year and that’s in the sense of not being great early on, but fighting hard and the guys having good pit stops. We had a couple of adjustments there where the team really kind of clicked in and the car was really good. Actually, I was sad to see all those yellows come out. Once I figured out the long run, my car was really good even before that last caution. I was trying to be nice to the No. 31 (Ryan Newman) knowing he’s battling for the championship. I was quicker than they were. In a way, ninth is a little disappointing. Overall, I am really proud of the team. It was probably one of the best efforts we have had all year.”
"We actually felt like we had a better car than a top-10 car," crew chief Dave Camp said. "I feel like we had a top-five car for sure. When we really don’t want a caution to come, that’s when they do and vice versa. It always works out that way for us it seems like. All and all, it’s good to be in a position where you can try to gamble like that anyway."
