The team will be basically the Ellington Racing/ Carolina Engineering team from 2014, but we will have more stability with a full season sponsorship package and a one car operation.

Parts of the team were closed at the end of 2014 with Ron Ellington planning on driving a limited schedule.  The other parts of the team were sold initially to Hiro Taygama who announced his entry into NASCAR with his own team purchased from Ellington.  Two months ago Taygama received a formula one ride and with urging of his sponsors, decided to concentrate full time in Formula One.  Ron Ellington and group purchased back Taygama's team and reorganized the effort to form MRG (Motorsports Research Group).

MRG will compete full time for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship building on Ellington/ Carolina Engineering's success from 2014 which included:

12 place finish in Sprint Cup points
1 win at Michigan
3 poles (Pocono, Michigan, Homestead)
304 laps led
8 top 10 starts
6 top 5 finishes
9 top 10 finishes
20 top 20 finishes
17 lead lap finishes
